Umuganura is a significant cultural event in Rwanda, It is a harvest festival that celebrates the country's rich agricultural heritage and the abundance of the harvest season. Umuganura has its roots in Rwanda's pre-colonial era. During this time, the festival was celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season and give thanks to the gods for the land's bounty (Republic of Rwanda, 2023). The festival was an important part of Rwanda's traditional culture, and it played a significant role in bringing people together to celebrate their shared heritage. The festival was celebrated annually, usually in August, lasting for several days. During this time, people would come together to sing, dance, and feast on traditional foods. The festival was also an opportunity for people to showcase their agricultural produce, and it was a time for farmers to receive recognition for their hard work.

Currently, Umuganura is celebrated annually on the first Friday of August. The festival is marked by a range of activities, including traditional music and dance performances, fashion shows, and exhibitions of agricultural produce (Mekky, 2023). The festival is also an opportunity for Rwandans to showcase their cultural heritage, including traditional clothing, crafts, and food. The celebration of Umuganura l usually held at the Village level. For now, Rwandans come together to celebrate their shared heritage. The festival is an opportunity for people to connect with their roots and to celebrate the country's rich cultural diversity. Umuganura is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it celebrates Rwanda's agricultural heritage, which is a crucial part of the country's economy. The festival recognizes the hard work of farmers and the importance of agriculture in Rwanda's development. Secondly, Umuganura promotes cultural heritage and national identity. The festival celebrates Rwanda's unique cultural traditions and provides an opportunity for people to connect with their roots. Thirdly, the festival promotes tourism in Rwanda (Republic of Rwanda, 2023).

The festival attracts tourists from all over the world, who come to experience Rwanda's rich cultural heritage. Umuganura promotes national unity and reconciliation. The festival brings people together from all over Rwanda, regardless of their background or ethnicity, to celebrate their shared heritage (Republic of Rwanda, 2023). During the festival, they use traditional dishes which include: Sorghum, maize, cassava, potatoes, pumpkins, beans, peas, bananas, etc. And also, they use local drinks like Ikigage, Urwagwa, and Ubushera. After sharing a meal as a village, they start to discuss the strengths and challenges they faced during the cultivating season.  As a sign of unity, they dance together, what we call Rwanda's traditional dance. Today, Umuganura is an important part of Rwanda's cultural calendar, and it attracts tourists from all over the world.
